Xpeng announces the new S5 charging station, which has a capacity of 800 kW, which is significantly higher than the brand's previous chargers, NIO systems (500 and 640 kW) and Zeekr chargers (600 kW).

Here's What We Know

With new liquid cooling and an output current of 800V at 1000V, the S5 promises to be a leader in fast charging. It is capable of delivering 187 miles (300 km) of range in just 5 minutes of charging and can increase the range by more than 1 km per second. The Xpeng S5 even outshines the Tesla Supercharger, or any other electric vehicle charger on the market.

The competition among Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers for the fastest charging network is ongoing, and Xpeng plans to launch a new system in the third quarter of 2024.

The 800 kW stations are only part of the company's ambitious plans, which aim to build up to 1,000 fast charging stations by 2026.

The development of ultra-fast charging stations is proceeding at a rapid pace, thanks to the efforts of NIO, Xpeng, Zeekr and other electric vehicle manufacturers, as well as new batteries from BYD and CATL.
