Google has announced the next generation of Nest smart thermostats, for the first time in nearly a decade. The fourth version of the Nest Learning Thermostat features improved climate control functionality and a new design with an all-glass display and thin bezel.

Here's What We Know

The thermostat is thinner, with a larger screen and a modern look. Key changes include enhanced user training and eco-friendly climate control. The new "smart ventilation" function allows the thermostat to take into account external conditions for optimal climate control in the home. For example, when using a supported heating system and on a sunny spring day with good air quality, the thermostat will pump in fresh air from the outdoors and automatically switch off when conditions deteriorate, such as when temperatures get very high or low.

The thermostat will also automatically adjust the temperature in the home based on outside conditions and user preference. When Google Assistant detects that you are approaching the house, the thermostat returns the temperature to a comfortable level an hour before you arrive.

The new 4th generation Nest thermostat is already available for pre-order at $280 and will go on sale on 20 August.
