Dragon Age: The Veilguard won't have a tactical camera. and players won't be able to directly control partners - new game details
More than a decade has passed since the release of the last instalment of Dragon Age. During this time, not only the technology and tastes of the public have changed, but also the approach to creating games, especially role-playing games.
Trailers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard showed that BioWare studio has abandoned many elements and familiar features of the series and, as it turned out, the new game will not have one of its key mechanics.
Here's What We Know
Creative Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard John Epler revealed that the new game will not have a tactical camera, which allowed to look at the battlefield from a height and examine all directions to think about further actions.
The main argument for this decision was the experience of development of Dragon Age: Inquisition - in the game in 2014 during battles in closed spaces, such as catacombs, dungeons or castles, the tactical camera worked incorrectly and caused irritation among players, and to abandon such locations would be wrong.
Tactical Camera in Dragon Age: Inquisition
Another factor that may have played a decisive role in the cancellation of the camera was also dictated by the tactical camera in Dragon Age: Inquisition. In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the developers completely revised the squad management system. Now the player is accompanied by two characters instead of three, and it is impossible to control them directly, as in previous games - this function is performed by artificial intelligence, and gamers can only give general orders (as in Mass Effect).
Game director Corinne Busche argued that the developers wanted to give the protagonist's friends more individuality, and to make them responsible for their own actions. In addition, the combat system of The Veilguard has become much closer to action games and it does not favour a long preparation process.
At the same time, the game will still have a tactical pause function, during which players, as before, will be able to plan further actions and give orders, which will be executed immediately after the pause is cancelled.
When We Can Expect It
BioWare has promised that the release date and details of the promising RPG will be announced at the end of summer, probably at gamescom 2024.
So far, the game has been announced to be released by the end of 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
