YouTube is starting to test a new feature similar to Twitter's community notes. This option allows users to clarify misinformation in a video by adding notes below it. The notes are reviewed by other users and, if they are deemed useful, appear below the video.

Here's What We Know

YouTube has sent out invitations to a pilot programme for a new feature that has no name yet. Users who find a video confusing or inaccurate can add a comment to explain it. Other participants in the programme will review these notes and decide whether they should be displayed.

The option is currently only available on mobile devices. Notes should be neutral, easy to understand, and contain verified sources. If the comment is approved by many users, it will be published below the video.

YouTube began testing the feature with a limited number of participants back in June and plans to roll it out more widely this week. It is not yet known when the changes will be available to the general public.
