A hacker attack on National Public Data has led to one of the largest leaks of personal data ever recorded

The internet has seen one of the largest data breaches on the internet due to yet another hack. A hacker under the pseudonym "Fenice" posted on the Breach Forums platform 2.9 billion records stolen from the company National Public Data.

Here's What We Know

This company provides data for criminal record checks and other public information. The leaked records include the full names, addresses, cities, states, zip codes, and Social Security numbers (SSNs) of Americans. The total amount of data is 277 GB.

This data can be used for identity theft, opening fake credit accounts, taking out loans and filing false tax returns. The leak occurred in April 2024 and hacker group USDoD tried to sell the data for $3.5 million. Jerico Pictures, which owns National Public Data, is currently facing lawsuits for not adequately protecting the data. National Public Data has not yet released an official statement about the incident.
