Xiaomi continues to improve its battery technology, equipping most of its smartphones with 5000 mAh batteries with 100W charging capability. The company is now rumoured to be testing even higher capacity smartphone batteries.

Here's What We Know

According to a Digital Chat Station insider, Xiaomi is now testing batteries with capacities ranging from 5500mAh to 7500mAh for its smartphones, providing 100W to 120W fast charging for them. In more detail, the situation looks like this:

  • 5000 mAh with 120W fast charging: 18 minutes
  • 5500 mAh with 100W fast charging: 34 minutes
  • 6000 mAh with 120W fast charging: 30 minutes
  • 6500 mAh with 100W fast charging: 49 minutes
  • 7000 mAh with 120W fast charging: 40 minutes
  • 7500 mAh with 100W fast charging: 63 minutes

This achievement is part of a broader trend in the industry, with companies like OnePlus and HONOR moving towards silicon-carbon batteries with high energy density.

Despite the potential for higher power charging, many manufacturers are limiting their fast charging capabilities to 100W or 120W, experimenting with 150W in some models. These advances are aimed at meeting the growing demand for high-performance smartphones with long battery life and fast charging times.
