Amidst the news of mass layoffs and global restructuring of Bungie studio, which is owned by Sony since 2022, many gamers are showing concern not only about the future of Destiny series, but also about the development of Marathon online shooter, announced in 2023.

Unfortunately, authoritative journalist and insider Jason Schreier confirmed that their fears are not groundless.

Here's What We Know

On the Skill Up podcast, Jason Schreier revealed that Bungie has had a lot of trouble producing Marathon. The game was scheduled to be released in 2024, but its release has officially been pushed back to 2025, but according to Schreier, many developers aren't sure if that timeframe is realistic either.

The currently available version of Marathon doesn't suit either Bungie or the testers. Many elements of the shooter need to be redone, but the team is not completely sure in which direction they should be changed.

Schreier's information is supplemented by Forbes. According to the publication, a significant part of the Bungie team was transferred to other Sony studios, and about 850 employees of the studio are working on Destiny 2 development and Marathon development. And since Bungie's business is not going well, there is a possibility that both projects will go under the full control of Sony, and it's not clear yet, what result this development will lead to.
