Turkey has restored access to Instagram after negotiations with the social network over censorship and crime-related content.

Here's What We Know

Instagram has been blocked in Turkey since 2 August. The decision was not officially explained. The ban was imposed after Fahrettin Altun, the head of Turkey's communications department, accused Instagram of censoring posts expressing condolences to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

In addition, the Turkish government expressed concern about content related to crimes such as murder and sexual violence.

Following negotiations between Turkey and Instagram, which included the fulfilment of censorship and content control requirements, access to Instagram is gradually being restored. Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu made the announcement via the X platform.
