Donald Trump's (Donald Trump) campaign headquarters has said it has been subjected to a hacking attack allegedly organised by Iran.

Here's What We Know

According to Politico, emails containing documents from inside the Trump campaign were obtained on Saturday. Staff spokesman Steven Cheung said the documents were obtained illegally and were intended to interfere with the 2024 election. He also cited a recent Microsoft report that said Iranian hackers hacked into the account of a senior campaign official in June 2024. This coincides with the timing of Trump's selection of a vice presidential nominee.

Cheng emphasised that Iran is keen to thwart Trump as he will stop their "terror regime" as he did in his first term. At the same time, there is no definitive word yet on Iran's involvement in the attack. CNN has reached out to the Iranian mission to the UN, the FBI, the Justice Department and the US Secret Service for comment. In 2016, a similar attack on the Democratic National Committee's server leaked 20,000 emails, causing a scandal and the resignation of the committee's chairman.
