Recently, on 9 August, the Polish Defence Agency signed a contract with the United States for the supply of several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM air-to-air missiles manufactured by the US defence giant RTX.

Here's What We Know

Poland's Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Bejda explained that the ordered AMRAAM missiles will be delivered to the Polish Armed Forces between 2029 and 2033. These missiles will be used on F-16 and F-35 fighters.

It is also possible to integrate this weapon system with FA-50 jets purchased by Poland from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

The Polish government does not disclose the specific number of AMRAAMs ordered, but it is known that the deal is estimated at $850 million. It is also worth noting that in March, the US State Department approved the sale of up to 745 missiles to Poland, along with 50 LAU-129 air-to-air missile systems. The potential deal is worth about $1.7 billion.

For those who are not aware

The AIM-120C AMRAAM is a modern air-to-air guided missile. It is used to engage aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles at medium ranges. The AIM-120C has active radar guidance, which allows it to be independently targeted after launch. The "C" version has a reduced wing area to improve its placement in the internal compartments of fighter aircraft. It has a range of up to 105 km and can attack targets beyond line of sight. The AIM-120C is widely used in the armed forces of many NATO countries.
