LG is seeking compensation from Apple for cancelling an order for microLED displays for the Apple Watch Ultra. According to Korean sources, LG invested heavily in the project, preparing to produce microLEDs at Apple's unofficial request. However, Apple cancelled the order in March, resulting in significant losses for LG.

Here's What We Know

The company invested tens of billions of Korean won (about $65 million) to prepare production facilities, hire staff and set up a special task force. As a result of the project's cancellation, LG had to disband the working group and incur losses due to production preparation costs.

Analysts suggest that if Apple agrees to compensate LG for the losses, it could lead to an increase in the cost of OLED panels that Apple buys from LG for its iPhones and iPads. Interestingly, Apple has never publicly announced the development of microLED displays for the Apple Watch, which complicates things for LG on the compensation issue.
