Google has announced the launch of the Pixel 9 series, which will be available with Android 14 instead of the expected Android 15. This came as a surprise to many, as previously new Pixel phones traditionally debuted with the latest version of Android.

Here's What We Know

The new Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, which will begin shipping next week, will run Android 14. This decision may be due to the fact that the first Pixel 9 phones were released two months earlier than last year and Android 15 development was not yet complete at launch.

Although the Pixel 9 will launch with Android 14, some of the features that debuted in the Android 15 beta are already available on these devices. The new screenshot interface on the Pixel 9 allows you to view images directly above the new tablet-like interface.

However, some features, such as private space, which requires significant changes to the operating system, will remain available only in Android 15. However, new Pixel AI options, including Gemini Live, a Gemini overlay that floats above apps, and the Pixel Studio image generator, will already be available on Android 14. New features such as Add me and Reimagine with will also be available on the camera side.

Android 15 is expected to arrive on the Pixel 9 series in an update formerly known as "Pixel Drop" and now called Feature Drops. Android 15 is currently in beta 4.1 and is already showing stable performance for everyday use.
