The entire Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones may get ultrasonic fingerprint scanners

According to a leak from whistleblower Smart Pikachu, the entire Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones could get a major update in fingerprint scanning technology.

The new devices are expected to ditch optical scanners in favour of ultrasonic scanners. Ultrasonic scanners use sound waves to create a more detailed 3D map of the fingerprint, which offers improved security and performance in a variety of conditions, including wet and dirty fingers. In addition, these scanners can offer faster unlocking speeds. Whether it will be a single-point sensor or a large area sensor is not yet known.

It is worth noting that the information has not yet been confirmed by Xiaomi itself. The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to be unveiled in November and will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
