San Francisco prosecutor's office fights websites using AI to create fake indecent images of women and children

The San Francisco District Attorney's Office has filed a lawsuit against 16 popular websites that use artificial intelligence to create fake nude images of women and children without their consent.

The sites, which were visited more than 200 million times in the first six months of 2024, are accused of violating laws prohibiting revenge pornography, dipshit pornography and child pornography.

The sites allow users to upload images of clothed people who are then "undressed" by AI. This causes serious problems, including sexual extortion and the distribution of indecent images without consent.

Prosecutor David Chiu said the investigation revealed horrific cases of exploitation of women and girls. The lawsuit seeks civil penalties, website shutdowns and a ban on creating dipface pornography in the future.
