Apple has released an updated version of iOS 17.6.1, which replaces the previous iOS 17.6.1 update released a week and a half ago. The new version has the build number 21G101 instead of 21G93.

Here's What We Know

The update is available for download on iPhone and iPad devices via Settings, General, Software Update.

According to the release notes, the new iOS 17.6.1 fixes a bug that prevented users from enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection. The issue affected a small number of users and meant that the iCloud data protection feature did not work properly. Sometimes it would remain active even though it appeared to be turned off, or vice versa.

The fix includes important changes to ensure that Advanced Data Protection works properly. After installing the update, users will receive a confirmation of their actions regarding this feature if they have previously experienced problems.

Apple also noted that even if Advanced Data Protection remained active even though it was supposed to be disabled, the level of security was not reduced. In fact, it may have been even higher than expected.
