Samsung Galaxy Ring supports Qi2, but without magnetic charging
Samsung Galaxy Ring is the first mobile device to be certified with Qi2, the latest wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).
Here's What We Know
While the Galaxy Ring does support Qi2 charging, it does not use magnetic charging, which is one of the main benefits of this standard.
Although the Galaxy Ring can be charged with Qi2 devices, the charging case does not magnetically lock to MagSafe chargers or accessories. This is because the case does not contain magnets.
Qi2, introduced in January 2023 and released in April, is an updated version of the Qi standard. It includes a magnetic feature that helps to better align charging cells and improve charging efficiency.
However, the Galaxy Ring only supports the basic power profile (BPP) without the magnetic function. This disappoints many users who expected to see all the benefits of the new standard in a Samsung device.
