New Windows 24H2 update will accelerate new and older AMD Ryzen processors
AMD has announced that the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 update will significantly improve the performance of the new Zen 5 processors. The recently released Ryzen 9000 series of processors failed to meet performance expectations in most tests. Following rumours that it could be a bug in Windows, AMD has confirmed that the branch prediction code specific to their processors will be optimised in the new version of Windows. The update is expected to be released next month.
Here's What We Know
AMD says the next-generation Zen 5 processors will get the biggest performance boost, but previous versions of Zen 4 and Zen 3 will also see improvements. The company predicts a 13 per cent performance boost for the 9950X processor in Far Cry 6 and a 7 per cent improvement in Cyberpunk 2077 when using the Windows 24H2 version.
It was previously noted that the Ryzen 9 7950X sometimes performed better than the new flagship Ryzen 9 9950X. On average, in 13 games with 1080p resolution and an RTX 4090 graphics card, the 9950X was just one per cent faster than the 7950X. We now have to wait for the 24H2 update tests to confirm AMD's claims of significant performance improvements. Despite the initial setbacks, AMD claims that the Ryzen 9000 series delivers strong performance in content creation, computational tasks and artificial intelligence applications.
