Iran is actively building its own aircraft carrier
Iran has begun construction of its own aircraft carrier IRGC Shahid Bagheri for the needs of the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC Navy).
Here's What We Know
The WarZone reported that this is a so-called advanced base ship, which is equipped with equipment from an existing commercial vessel.
Despite the fact that the date of the last known photo is unknown, it can still be seen that the work is bringing the "aircraft carrier" into a more or less decent condition. The runway on the deck looks complete and has markings on the surface.
"Iran's First Aircraft Carrier uses a Perarin container ship, approximately 790 feet long, to house the flight deck and, as can be clearly seen in the new photo, the take-off ramp. The Shahid Bagheri retains the original superstructure that spans the full width of the deck, meaning that a conventional configuration with the deck running along the ship cannot be adopted. Instead, an angled deck provides the required runway length.
The addition of the angled deck, which extends all the way to the bow ramp with the ramp, involves the construction of a prominent projection on the port side of the vessel.
