The US tests a new cruise missile that is 10 times cheaper than usual

The American start-up company Ares Industries has announced the first tests of a new anti-ship cruise missile being developed for the US Army.

The missile is reportedly 10 times smaller and cheaper than existing missile systems. And it was tested within 11 weeks of the company's opening.

The new missile should help fill the "ammunition shortage" caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war and the difficulty of producing high-tech weapons in the United States.

It is worth noting that anti-ship cruise missiles typically weigh about 1,300 kilograms and cost about $3 million. But thanks to the Ares Industries initiative, the military will be able to purchase a smaller cruise missile weighing 140 kilograms for $300,000.

Y Combinator, the US company that is funding Ares Industries, said that developing a much cheaper missile system is useful because the giant missile manufacturers are "bloated" due to rising global demand. In addition, it is not practical to spend a lot on destroying small targets with very expensive weapons systems.
