Apple has announced new changes to its mobile operating systems to comply with the EU Digital Markets Act.

Here's What We Know

In iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, iPhone and iPad users in the EU will be able to install third-party default apps for calls, messages, password management, keyboards, and spam filters. These changes will appear under "Default Apps" in settings.

Users will also be able to remove more inbuilt apps including App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos and Safari. The only exceptions will be the Settings and Phone apps. An updated browser selection screen will be shown to all users who have Safari installed by default, with additional information about third-party browsers.

These changes will take effect later this year, with the option to set default navigation and translation apps coming in spring 2025.
