Norway to buy AMRAAM-ER missiles for NASAMS SAMs from the US

The US State Department has approved the sale of AMRAAM-ER missiles to Norway.

Here's What We Know

The information appeared on the website of the US Department of Defence's Office of Military Cooperation. Norway will purchase 100 missiles for surface-to-air missile systems NASAMS. In addition, the contract will include 4 homing modules from AIM-120C-8 missiles, as well as technical equipment and support. The amount of the deal will be $405 million.

Flashback

AMRAAM-ER (Extended Range) is an advanced version of the AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) developed by Raytheon. This version is designed for air defence systems and provides enhanced capability to engage air targets at longer ranges.

AMRAAM-ER has a more powerful engine, as well as increased range and altitude to engage targets. The missile is equipped with an active radar homing head, which provides high accuracy and efficiency in electronic warfare environments.

AMRAAM-ER is designed to destroy various airborne threats such as aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
