In May 2024, we wrote that analysts underestimated the PlayStation Portal. Demand for the console in the US exceeded supply for several months. Many people really wanted to buy the Sony device, although it is a streaming console that does not work without the Internet. This success probably made the Japanese company look towards portability again.

Here's What We Know

According to insider Tom Henderson, Sony is closely studying the portable device market. And given the incredible success of Siwtch and the popularity of Steam Deck, we may one day see a new full-fledged portable console from Sony.

He also noted that if you want to buy a portable console, you'd better save some money, because it looks like many other options and improvements are coming soon. Tom didn't give an exact timeframe, but it's clearly not about Sony, but solutions like the Switch 2 or the new Steam Deck.
