Volkswagen has announced the introduction of the AirConsole gaming platform in its Volkswagen EV and other models. The line-up of vehicles that will gain access to gaming includes the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4, ID.3, as well as the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf and Golf Estate. The platform will be available in select European markets from mid-September, with further expansion into other territories and the addition of new games.

Here's What We Know

To start playing, users will need to launch the AirConsole app on the Active Info display and scan a QR code to connect their smartphone as a controller. Rear-seat passengers will also be able to join multiplayer games. However, the games will only be available when the car is parked, making them ideal for entertainment while the electric car is charging or normally parked.

Volkswagen is not the first automaker to implement AirConsole in its cars. BMW also started doing so last year. The AirConsole platform is also available on desktops, Android TV, Google TV and Amazon Fire TV.
