iFixit has published a disassembly of the Pixel 9 Pro XL and revealed design innovations that Google has implemented to improve durability and maintainability.

Here's What We Know

The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a new dual-entry design that allows the front and back to be removed separately. This makes it easier to access components without having to remove the screen first.

This design also makes it easier to replace the battery, as you can now access it through the back. While the new design makes the phone more durable, iFixit notes that the screen remains fragile and can be difficult to remove without damage. On the other hand, the top glass was removed without any problems.

Another feature is the USB-C port, which is now located on a separate daughterboard, making it easier to replace.

The dual-entry design provides for a middle plate with a large hole covered by a radiator, which increases structural rigidity. Google advertises the Pixel 9 Pro XL as twice as durable as the Pixel 8.
