HONOR has announced a new AI Defocus technology in the Magic V3 smartphone that prevents nearsightedness
HONOR has announced that its latest Magic V3 foldable smartphone will feature the industry's first AI Defocus display technology, which aims to reduce eye strain and prevent nearsightedness.
Here's What We Know
AI Defocus technology uses artificial intelligence algorithms that mimic traditional optical methods to reduce eye strain and transient myopia by incorporating defocus signals into screen layers. Additionally, Magic V3 features ultra-high PWM dimming to reduce screen flicker, which also contributes to eye protection.
The new technology is inspired by defocused multiple segments (DIMS) used in specialised eyewear to prevent axial elongation of eye signals. Laboratory tests have shown that AI Defocus reduces near work myopia by an average of 13° and increases the thickness of the central vasculature of the eye in just 25 minutes of screen time.
In addition, AI Defocus technology is already compatible with YouTube and Amazon Kindle, and the company plans to expand support to other apps in the future. The global launch of the HONOR Magic V3 will take place on 5 September in Berlin at IFA. The smartphone is already available in China and is the thinnest and lightest foldable book-style device.
