Will the dream of MGS fans finally come true? Konami producer hints at the possibility of porting Metal Gear Solid 4 to modern platforms

The cult stealth action game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released in 2008 and is still the only game of the famous series that is available only on one device - PlayStation 3.

MGS fans have been forced to use unofficial emulators and other workarounds to enjoy the beautiful spy drama for years, and have been asking Konami to release the game on modern platforms.

So far, the Japanese publisher has ignored the fans' request, but it looks like this will soon change.

Here's What We Know

In the preview of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (remake of the third part), IGN journalists asked series producer Noriaki Okamura whether MGS 4 release on PC and modern consoles is possible, to which the Japanese gave an indirect, but very encouraging answer:

We are definitely aware of the MGS4 situation. Unfortunately, we can't say anything at this time. The [Master Collection re-release] Vol. 1 contains MGS 1-3, dot-to-dot-to-dot-to-dot... You can probably connect the dots [and see where I'm going with this]!

For now, we're still having internal discussions about what to do with the future of the series. So I apologise, we can't announce anything just yet. But stay tuned!

Okamura is most likely implying that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which includes the first three parts of MGS and three parts of Metal Gear, will not be the only such collection, and in the near future Konami will release another collection, which will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ported to the current platforms. Moreover, such rumours have already appeared in the network.

Probably, the second compilation will be released shortly or simultaneously with the release of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, but when the remake will be released is still unknown.
