When we hear about virtual football, we usually associate it with the FIFA series. However, there are not many story-driven projects in this genre, so to fix this, Despelote was presented, developed by Julián Cordero and Sebastian Valbuena, as well as Panic.

Here's What We Know

Despelote is an adventure game set in 2001 in Quito, Ecuador. Julián, an 8-year-old boy, spends his days kicking a soccer ball around, and Ecuador is close to qualifying for the FIFA World Cup. There is an atmosphere of excitement around him and his surroundings as he plays with his friends, explores the neighbourhood and gets to know the people of Quito.

So immerse yourself in the world of Quito's streets and parks, dribble, pass and kick the football around the city, and see what happens if you kick it in someone's direction.

The game also has an interesting visual style, where all characters and objects are hand-drawn, and the city of Quito has a retro filter.

When We Can Expect It

Despelote is scheduled for release in early 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
