Spotify accuses Apple of breaking volume control on devices due to iOS changes
Spotify is once again at odds with Apple, accusing it of breaking the Spotify Connect feature. Spotify claims that recent changes to iOS have broken the ability to control volume through the iPhone's physical buttons when using Spotify Connect.
Here's What We Know
Previously, users could use these buttons to control the volume on connected devices, but now they have to use the volume slider in the Spotify app.
Spotify believes that this violates the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires companies like Apple to ensure that hardware and software features interact effectively.
In particular, Apple allows iPhone volume buttons to be used to control the volume on its devices, such as HomePod and Apple TV, but not on third-party platforms.
Spotify asked Apple to provide similar access for third-party developers. For now, the company has added a new feature to its iOS app that will notify users when they need to use the in-app volume controls.
