In the USA, an AI-powered security robot helps fight crime and transmits information to law enforcement in a shopping mall (video)
Kansas City, Missouri, has a new AI-powered security robot that is actively reducing crime. The robot, named Marshall, weighs 270 kg and patrols the territory of the Brywood shopping centre. It's a large, 1.5-metre-high robot on wheels, similar to R2-D2, without weapons.
Here's What We Know
Marshall does not fight criminals physically. Instead, it collects information about incidents and transmits it to law enforcement. For example, he recorded the number plate of a getaway car, which helped the police find the criminals. As a result, crime in the neighbourhood decreased by 50%.
However, there are also controversial issues. The robot collects the IP addresses of nearby devices without the users' knowledge. This raises privacy concerns. Although Marshall does help to reduce crime, the question of how personal data is processed remains relevant.
