Technical problems or a secret deal with Sony? There is a heated discussion in the media about the reasons for the cancellation of Black Myth: WuKong's release on Xbox

Chinese action game Black Myth: WuKong caused a stir in the gamer community and became one of the most discussed games. In no small measure it was caused by not quite clear situation connected with indefinitely postponed release of the game on Xbox.

Here's What We Know

Initially the developers from Game Science announced the release of Black Myth: WuKong on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, but two months before the release of the game it became known that the game will not be available for users of American consoles.

At first it was explained that due to technical reasons the game could not be released on Xbox on the announced date. After that, rumours started circulating that the developers had struck a deal for console exclusivity for WuKong on PS5.

Last week, Forbes journalist Paul Tassi reported that Black Myth: Wukong is not available on Xbox Series solely due to technical problems related to Microsoft's policy, which strictly prescribes the release of games simultaneously on the powerful Xbox Series X and the initially weak and outdated Xbox Series S, and if the project can not be adapted to the low-powered device - its release is delayed or cancelled.

Now Paul Tassi has denied his own words and claims that he received information from trusted sources, which reported that Game Science still made a deal with Sony and made Black Myth: WuKong a temporary or permanent PlayStation 5 exclusive.

To make matters worse, Tassi also noted the contradictions in the official statements from Game Science and Microsoft. While the Chinese cited optimisation problems, the Americans gave a vague comment: "We cannot comment on deals made by our partners with other platformers...".

IGN journalists share the same information, but from their own sources. They are also sure that the delay of the release on Xbox is not due to technical problems and it is a conscious move of the developers. At the same time, several authoritative insiders - Jeff Grubb, Shpeshal Nick, extas1s and Lunatic Ignus - do not agree with this information and insist on technical problems.

Well, the situation remains unclear, both versions may equally turn out to be true. We are waiting for official comments.
