New TalkBack image description feature not available for Samsung devices

Google has announced a new image description feature in its TalkBack service that uses Gemini artificial intelligence to create text descriptions of images on the screen. However, this option will not be available on Samsung Galaxy devices.

Here's What We Know

The reason is that Samsung has its own TalkBack service, which does not integrate with Google's Gemini AI.

TalkBack is part of the Android Accessibility Suite and comes preinstalled on most Android devices. It is not available on Samsung phones and tablets with One UI, as Samsung uses its own version of TalkBack, which it updates through the Galaxy Store.

This new feature will be available for all Android 11 and later devices, except Samsung, as well as Google Pixel 9 phones. On the Pixel 9, TalkBack will work with Gemini Nano to create image descriptions directly on the device. Whether Samsung will add support for this feature to its service will be revealed at SDC 2024.
