Samsung urges users of old Galaxy smartphones to switch to Google Messages
Samsung has started offering users of older Galaxy S20, S21 and S22 phones to switch to Google Messages as their default text messaging app.
Here's What We Know
Earlier this year, Samsung had already announced that Google Messages would become the default app for new phones and replace Samsung Messages. Now it looks like this change will also affect older models such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Galaxy S22 Plus.
On Reddit and Threads, users are reporting that they are being asked to update the messaging app. While Samsung Messages remains available, the company is actively encouraging people to switch to Google Messages.
This move supports the RCS standard, which replaces SMS and has already been implemented on the new Galaxy Flip 6 and Galaxy Fold 6 models.
