The decentralised social network Bluesky became popular among Brazilians after the ban of X (formerly Twitter). In just one week, the platform attracted 2 million new users.

Here's What We Know

The ban of X in Brazil was caused by the platform's refusal to delete accounts accused of spreading disinformation. The Brazilian Supreme Court banned access to X and ordered it to be removed from the Apple and Google app stores.

Bluesky, created by Jack Dorsey in 2019, has become a popular alternative to X due to its similar features and decentralised structure. The recent increase in users comes amid global interest in platforms that offer more control and privacy.

Despite its success, Bluesky is still evolving and faces challenges in expanding its features. However, the growth in Brazil could be a harbinger of change in social media, where decentralised platforms are becoming increasingly relevant.
