UK to transfer 650 Martlet air defence missiles to Ukraine
The UK Ministry of Defence has announced a new military aid package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
The new arms package is worth £162m (about $200m) and includes 650 Martlet missiles for air defence. The first batch of weapons will arrive in Ukraine by the end of 2024.
Martlet missiles, also known as Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM), are designed by the British company Thales for multi-mission use. These small-sized missiles are designed to be used on a variety of platforms including helicopters, drones, ships, and ground vehicles.
The Martlet missile is equipped with high-precision guidance. Thanks to this, it can engage targets at a range of up to 8 kilometres.
The Martlet's main advantage is its versatility and ability to operate in modern combat conditions.
