It has been reported that Google is planning to update the Quick Settings interface in Android 16. Since the release of Android 12, Quick Settings has remained largely unchanged, offering users eight large tiles in a 2×4 grid.

Here's What We Know

In the current design, introduced for the first time in Android 12, the settings and notifications panels are combined. However, Google is testing a new design where they will be separated.

In the new design, the first swipe down displays only the notification bar, taking up a quarter of the screen. The quick settings bar is now brought up by double swiping down, which may make users uncomfortable. The brightness bar is still at the top of the screen, but it is now accompanied by a text label and displays the brightness level as you adjust it, similar to the updated volume sliders in Android 15.

This design is still a work in progress, with the user switch, power menu, and other elements missing. The panel also doesn't work well in bright mode. It's not yet known if this design will be implemented in the final version of Android 16.
