Apple is preparing its own 5G modem for iPhone, which will appear next year
Apple is preparing its own 5G modem for the iPhone, and it may debut as early as next year. It is known that the company has been working on this chip since 2018.
Here's What We Know
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will supply 35 to 40 million new modems by 2025. In 2026, this number may increase to 90-110 million, and in 2027 - to 160-180 million.
Two new iPhone models with a new modem are expected to be launched in 2025: The fourth-generation iPhone SE in the first quarter and the ultra-thin iPhone 17 in the third quarter.
Currently, all iPhones are equipped with Qualcomm modems, but Apple plans to switch to its own chips over time. Although the company has extended its agreement with Qualcomm until 2026, Apple has already acquired Intel's modem business in 2019 to develop its own technology.
