Power Station, not PlayStation: Sony's legendary console was originally supposed to have a completely different name
Over its 30-year history, PlayStation has become one of the most popular consoles, and even those who have never played games have heard of it. However, it could have originally had a completely different name.
Here's What We Know
In a conversation with Simon Parkin on the My Perfect Console podcast, former president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Chris Doering said that the original name of the console was actually "Power Station".
However, there were trademark issues in some parts of the world, so it was decided that it would be PlayStation.
There was also a little resistance from some marketers, but the name was decided to be changed, and we all know what happened next. But it's interesting to think about the fact that if it weren't for the trademark issue, we would have a Power Station at home, not a PlayStation.
