Apple releases update for AirPods Pro ahead of iOS 18 launch

Apple has announced a new firmware version for AirPods Pro (2nd generation) that will be available shortly before the release of iOS 18 next week. The update, which has build number 7A294, replaces the previous version 6F8.

Here's What We Know

This update does not contain any official notes from Apple, but is likely to prepare AirPods Pro for new features that will be introduced with iOS 18.

New features

  • Voice isolation to improve call quality in noisy environments.
  • Support for nodding or shaking your head to interact with Siri.
  • Personalised spatial sound update.

To check your device's firmware version:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to the Bluetooth menu.
  • Find your AirPods in the list of devices.
  • Tap the "i" next to them.
  • Check the firmware version number.

The AirPods firmware update happens automatically when the earbuds are charging and within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac connected to Wi-Fi. There is currently no way to manually update the firmware.
