Poland orders radars for air traffic control from Spanish Indra
The Polish Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with the Spanish company Indra for the production of eight mobile radars for air traffic control.
Here's What We Know
The agreement provides for the delivery of the first eight systems by 2028 with an option to deliver seven more systems by 2031.
It is worth explaining that the Indra radar system is a mobile radar system that can determine all three coordinates (azimuth, range and altitude) of an aircraft's trajectory in all weather conditions. The radar can also be equipped with a friend-or-foe recognition system.

The radars will replace the AVIA-W stationary airfield control stations currently in service in Poland. AVIA-W determines the azimuth and distance to an aircraft at a distance of up to 112 km, and provides electronic identification using the MARK XII system.
In addition, the agreement provides for the construction of the necessary infrastructure, training of Polish Armed Forces personnel, provision of technical documentation and supply of logistical support packages.
Indra's systems are small and transportable, allowing them to be flexibly deployed anywhere as required. They will also ensure full interoperability with NATO allied air forces.
