The Estonian Defence Investment Centre has announced plans to invest almost €500 million in various infrastructure projects across Estonia over the next four years.

Here's What We Know

According to the head of the department, Kadi-Kai Kollo, in the first half of 2024, the EDIC has already invested €110 million in defence infrastructure, which is 6% of the total expenditure of all Estonian construction companies.

Key areas of investment include barracks, weapons storage buildings, strategic sustainability projects, and, for example, warehouses. Funds are also being invested in infrastructure improvements to support the hosting of allied forces, such as upgrading roads, bridges, and ports.

Currently, most defence infrastructure developments are concentrated in Western Estonia, the city of Tartu, and Southeastern Estonia. Key upcoming projects include the opening of the Reedo military complex near the city of Vir, which will enhance NATO's ability to deploy allied forces in the region. Also, the repair of the runway in Emari is scheduled to be completed soon.
