At the beginning of 2024, Microsoft announced a massive wave of layoffs, with 1,900 employees from Xbox, Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Bethesda out of work.

Unfortunately, the sad trend continued and today another mass layoff has become known.

Here's What We Know

An internal letter from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has been published in the media, revealing that another 650 people will lose their jobs.

This time the cuts affect management departments and support services and do not directly affect game developers.

Spencer justified his decision by the desire to minimise disruption to work processes, reduce costs, improve labour efficiency and preserve the potential for business development in the long term.

Microsoft guarantees that all laid-off employees will receive a decent severance package and employment support.

Apparently, the ongoing layoffs in Microsoft Gaming divisions are a consequence of the expensive purchase of Activision Blizzard, which cost the corporation more than $69 billion and will not pay off soon.
