Apple gets FDA approval for AirPods Pro 2 as a hearing aid: new feature coming soon
Apple has received approval from the FDA to use AirPods Pro 2 as an over-the-counter hearing aid. This is the first time that the FDA has allowed the use of headphones as a hearing aid without the need for a prescription from a doctor.
Here's What We Know
According to TechCrunch, a new update for AirPods Pro 2 will add a hearing aid feature. Users will be able to take a short hearing test using AirPods and an iPhone, and if hearing loss is detected, a personalised sound profile will be created. This will allow the AirPods Pro 2 to automatically adjust the sound to improve perception.
Apple claims that the new feature will help users hear conversations better and stay connected to the environment. Personalised hearing profiles will be automatically applied to music, movies, games and phone calls without the need for additional settings.
For those with mild hearing loss, Hearing Test will also allow you to adjust the sound at specific frequencies.
The hearing aid feature for AirPods Pro 2 is scheduled to launch this autumn.
