Google TV is rebranding its free TV channels and they will now be called FreePlay. The new branding first appeared on the Google TV streamer last month and now extends to a wider range of Google TV devices, including Chromecast and Android TV.

Here's What We Know

FreePlay currently offers 150 free channels, up significantly from 80 channels at launch in early 2023. Google TV has been gradually expanding its selection of free TV channels, and the rebranding could hint at further expansion to include free movies and TV shows from YouTube or other ad-supported platforms.

The rebranding of FreePlay is a clear signal of Google's intention to continue investing in its free content ecosystem to attract more users moving from traditional cable packages to streaming.

Currently, users in the US can already find this updated service under the "Live" tab on the Google TV home screen.
