The first image of Tesla's robotaxi prototype: new details appear online
For the first time, photos of the Tesla Robotaxi prototype have been posted online, although the car is completely covered with camouflage film. Previously, this project existed only in conceptual renderings.
Here's What We Know
A prototype of an unmanned electric vehicle was spotted on the territory of the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank, California. The photo, which first appeared on Reddit and was later deleted, shows a yellow car in camouflage covering standing next to a Tesla Model Y.
Despite the camouflage, you can see that the prototype is smaller than the Model Y. Its flat front and sloping rear windscreen, as well as continuous taillights, resemble some of the design elements of the Tesla Cybertruck.
There is an elevation on the roof of the car, where a LiDAR sensor is likely to be placed. This may be surprising, as Tesla has always stressed that LiDAR is not necessary for autonomous driving.
The official presentation of the robotaxi is scheduled for 10 October 2024. Experts believe that the new car will be based on the Tesla Model 2 platform and will cost less than 30 thousand US dollars.
