With iPadOS 18, iPad users will be able to select and add emojis more easily in iPhone apps thanks to a new feature.

Here's What We Know

Using iPhone apps on iPad was not always easy, especially when an external keyboard was connected. Emojis weren't always available due to the lack of a virtual keyboard.

iPadOS 18 solves this problem by allowing you to open a selection of emoji using the Control + Command + space bar, even in iPhone apps that weren't optimised for iPad. Previously, this combination didn't work in iPhone apps, and users were forced to use workarounds such as disabling the keyboard or copying emojis from other apps.

In addition to emoji improvements, iPadOS 18 brings many new features familiar from iOS 18, such as new Home screen customisation options, an updated Control Centre, a new Calculator app, and Apple Intelligence, which will be available with the iPadOS 18.1 update.

The update is available for the following iPad models

  • iPad 7 and later
  • iPad Air 3 and later
  • iPad mini 5 and later
  • iPad Pro (2018 and later)
