Google creates new platform for Wear OS with company that sued Apple
Google and Masimo have announced a new partnership to develop platforms for Wear OS smartwatches. This association will provide manufacturers with new health tracking tools using Masimo's technology.
Here's What We Know
Since the Wear OS update, the variety of smartwatches has significantly decreased, as new versions of the platforms require manufacturers to provide their own health solutions. Masimo, known for its medical technology, will create a new platform that will facilitate the development of new watches with robust health and wellness features.
This platform will allow OEMs to release new models faster with accurate data and easy integration with smartphones. Additionally, Masimo will develop and provide sensors and software for the new devices.
Masimo filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing it of infringing patents related to medical technologies for tracking blood oxygen used in the Apple Watch series. Masimo demanded a complete ban on Apple Watch imports unless Apple entered into a licensing agreement.
Due to this legal dispute, Apple was forced to temporarily stop selling the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models. After that, the tech giant decided to completely abandon the blood oxygen tracking function in all new models of its watches. This decision applies even to the latest models, such as the Apple Watch Series 10, which was announced last week.
