The release of the ambitious strategy game Frostpunk 2 from Polish studio 11 bit will take place on the 20th of September.

The game is already available to those who pre-ordered the Deluxe-edition and at the same time the embargo on publishing reviews was lifted.

Many game journalists had time to familiarise themselves with Frostpunk 2 and hurried to share their impressions.

Here's What We Know

As expected, gamers will get an excellent strategy, which is superior to the first part in everything. The game has significantly increased the scale of events, cities are surprising in their size, gameplay mechanics impress with their depth and elaboration, moral dilemmas make you think about your decisions, the City Council constantly pressures the player and each faction puts forward its own requirements.

Critics agree that Frostpunk 2 is one of the best economic strategies in the history of the genre, but there is one nuance: as the scale of events increases, the player no longer has the feeling that he decides the fate of each individual citizen, as it was in the first part. In Frostpunk 2, the population of the city is depersonalised and represents more like numbers on the screen than real people for whose lives the player is responsible.

Otherwise, Frostpunk 2 is an excellent game, as evidenced by the scores on aggregators:

  • On Metacritic the game has 86 points;
  • on Opencritic - 85 points with 97% of recommendations.

The game is released only on PC and will be available in the Game Pass catalogue from day one, and Frostpunk 2 will be ported to PS5 and Xbox Series in the future.
