Italy will transfer an additional battery of SAMP/T SAMs to Ukraine by the end of September

Italy is preparing a new military aid package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was announced by the Minister of defence of the country, reports Rai News. The new aid package will include an additional battery of the SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system. The system should arrive in Ukraine by the end of September.

Flashback

SAMP/T (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain) is an advanced medium-range surface-to-air missile system developed by the French-Italian consortium Eurosam, including MBDA and Thales. The system is designed to defend against a wide range of airborne threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones and ballistic missiles.

The main armament of the system is Aster 30 missiles, which have high speed and manoeuvrability, allowing them to effectively engage targets at ranges of up to 100km and altitudes of up to 20km. SAMP/T is equipped with the Arabel multifunctional radar system, which provides accurate detection and tracking of targets.

The complex is integrated into air and missile defence systems, making it an important element of multi-level defence. Ukraine has one battery of SAMP/T SAMs in service so far.
