France upgrades Mirage 2000-5F fighters before delivering them to Ukraine
France will upgrade some of the Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets destined for Ukraine to enable them to hit ground targets.
Here's What We Know
French fighters of this modification have always been used only as fighters. This means that there was never any question of using air-to-ground munitions.
However, Ukraine's needs today are combat aircraft that can fight air targets and hit ground targets. That is why France decided to modify some of the Mirage 2000-5F fighters it has pledged to supply to Ukraine as part of its military assistance.
In June 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Ukraine would receive Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets.
At the same time, he promised that France would organise six-month training courses for Ukrainian pilots. Macron stressed that helping Ukraine to counter Russian aggression "means avoiding the rule of the strongest".
Earlier it was noted that the Ukrainian Air Force could receive French Mirage 2000-5F fighters by the end of 2024.
