Garmin signs contract to supply MicroLED displays, Fenix 8 may get MicroLED display
Garmin has recently announced a contract with a MicroLED display supplier, which has sparked a wave of rumours about the upcoming Fenix 8 MicroLED smartwatch. Currently, the Fenix series has been expanded with the Fenix E and Fenix 8 models, which are the first in the line with AMOLED displays.
Here's What We Know
The new data points to a possible expansion of the Fenix 8 series, including the appearance of Fenix 8 Pro models in 47 mm and 51 mm sizes, as well as an unpublished "Fenix 8 MicroLED" variant. Although Garmin has not yet released a MicroLED watch, the company is actively moving from Memory in Pixel technology to brighter AMOLED displays.
Currently, the MicroLED smartwatch market is actively explored by such giants as Apple and Samsung. Garmin has partnered with Vuzix to develop new optical systems based on waveguides.
Under the terms of the contract, Vuzix plans to develop projection mechanisms that will help Garmin reduce costs and shrink the size of devices compared to existing technologies.
